jeff runs to the peterbilt and jumps on the driver's side running board, grasping the door handle. the truck is no longer hitting the ford squarely. instead, the peterbilt's right front tire is riding up and over the cargo bed, crushing the left side of the ford under its massive weight. the peterbilt is surging up the driver's side of the ford, using the pickup like a ramp! for an instant, the peterbilt's front tires seem to hang in the air. then the truck is falling! the left rear set of wheels on the trailer is snagged on the thick rebar reinforcement in the crumbled concrete railing. the iron rebar groans. it's beginning to give way under the weight of the truck. the truck slips slightly. the rebar groans. the truck is wedged against the ford. as the truck slips, it forces the ford closer to the edge. jeff and amy fall backward on the road. down below, secondary explosions rock the canyon. jeff takes amy in his arms.
